Brentford respond with clear demand after United lodged new and improved bid for Mbeumo – report

Manchester United are inching closer to striking an agreement with Brentford for Bryan Mbuemo after submitting a renewed bid, but there are still details to iron out.

United have been working hard to get a deal for Mbeumo over the line after he was identified as the perfect candidate to slot into one of the two number 10 positions alongside new signing Matheus Cunha.

Mbeumo netted 20 goals for Brentford last season – all in the Premier League. Only Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Alexander Isak (Newcastle), and Erling Haaland (Manchester City) outscored him in the competition. It was the first time in his career that Mbeumo reached double figures for a top-flight club.

He bagged 11 goals across all competitions for Ligue 2 Troyes in 2018/19 and 16 goals for Brentford in the 2019/20 campaign, when they were still in the Championship.

Mbeumo delivered steady returns in his first three Premier League campaigns, recording eight, nine, and nine goals across all competitions respectively.

United had an opening bid worth a total £55m for Mbeumo turned down by Brentford, who are believed to be holding out for around the same amount that was forked out for Cunha.

A report covered by The Peoples Person on Monday relayed that the Red Devils launched a new and improved offer for the Cameroonian, which is in excess of £60m.

Now, The Standard have revealed Brentford’s stance on this latest development.

According to the newspaper, Mbeumo’s switch to Old Trafford is “edging closer” but Brentford want some clarity over add-ons and performance-related bonuses.

The Standard state, “Brentford are hoping to negotiate easier add-ons from United, whose latest bid is worth £55m up front with a further £5m in add-ons, before sanctioning a deal for Mbeumo.”

“While United remain the frontrunners for Mbeumo, Brentford are understandably prepared to entertain a bidding war for their star forward.”

Mbeumo’s sale would represent a club-record departure for Mbeumo, eclipsing the £40m Al-Ahli paid to lure Ivan Toney to the Saudi Pro League.
