Bedelia (mems Fleshwater, Bad Suns) share new singles “Valley Sadness” & “Tightrope”

Marisa Shirar of Fleshwater and MIRSY, Miles Morris of Bad Suns, and Ethel Cain guitarist Dakota Floeter have a new trio, Bedelia, and they’ve shared their first couple of songs under the moniker. They released the dreamy, shimmering “Tightrope,” their debut single, earlier this month, and “Valley Sadness” is out today.

About “Valley Sadness,” Morris said, “This song is about growing up in the San Fernando Valley where we experienced many of our pivotal moments. (First loves, heartbreak, death, etc…) Things that you carry with you no matter where you go. You can feel stuck in your hometown and decide to leave just to find out you miss it. The emotion and feeling of the song is perfectly laid out in the chorus lyrics; they sound like ‘goodbye,’ but truly mean, ‘I’ll be around.’”

Morris also released a statement about “Tightrope:

Lyrically this song is about reflecting on your own shortcomings within a relationship. It’s about not choosing love. When we’re young and our main example of love is inextricably linked to pain, it can result in us subconsciously (or consciously) sabotaging our adult relationships. Sometimes the fear is not that it won’t work out, but that somehow it will.

I love the choice we made to withhold chorus lyrics until the last round. Marisa referenced Garbage’s “When I Grow Up” and we thought that was such a cool way to build excitement as the song progressed. This was the first song we wrote and recorded, as well as the first time we worked with Dakota for this project. I was blown away by how dialed in his tone was and how much his parts elevated the song.
