AIR announce ‘The Virgin Suicides Redux’ to mark 25th anniversary

AIR have announced ‘The Virgin Suicides Redux’ to mark the 25th anniversary of their cult soundtrack.

The 2000 album was AIR’s second LP and also the soundtrack to Sofia Coppola’s directorial debut The Virgin Suicides.

Now, to celebrate its milestone anniversary, the album will be reissued with a new analogue mix of the original tapes, which, per a press release, “deepens and updates” the tracks.

‘The Virgin Suicides Redux’ will comes as a full analog Vinyl record and a 2-CD/Blu-Ray Digipack including the new analog mix, a spatial audio (Dolby Atmos) Blu-Ray of the album, as well as a selection of previously unheard rarities and demos.

It will be released on September 26 and is available for pre-order here.

NME gave the original soundtrack a four-star review, writing: “‘The Virgin Suicides’ is Godin and Dunckel at their best – entirely removed from logic and gleefully, wickedly free to roam their own, unique world.” It also came in at Number 11 in our list of the Top 50 Film Soundtracks.

Earlier this summer, Charli XCX joined the Versailles duo as a surprise guest on stage at We Love Green Festival, and performed ‘Cherry Blossom Girl’ from their 2004 album ‘Walkie Talkie’ against a bright ‘Brat’ green backdrop.

It comes after Charli shared her Spotify Wrapped stats in December, revealing that Air were her second-most listened to artist of 2024. She later called it a “dream come true” to duet with the band.

In other news, Emmanuel Macron has said he wants French electronic music to be awarded with UNESCO World Heritage status.

The country’s contributions to the genre, which is often referred to as French touch, includes landmark work from the likes of Air, alongside Daft PunkJusticeCassiusPhoenix, Étienne de Crécy, M83 and Alan Braxe.

Elsewhere, in April VEGYN released a reimagining of AIR’s iconic 1998 album ‘Moon Safari’.
