Christian Eriksen left Manchester United last summer after his contract expired and has since moved to Wolfsburg. The Danish midfielder was in and out of the starting XI under former head coach Ruben Amorim, and the Red Devils opted to end his stay at the Theatre of Dreams at the end of last season.
Eriksen arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2022 under former manager Erik ten Hag. Fresh from his exploits with Brentford, the Dane signed as a free agent and had a decent first campaign under the Dutchman.
However, he lost prominence in his second campaign, as injuries hurt his chances. The rise of young Kobbie Mainoo also relegated him to the bench, and he managed to register just 14 starts in the entire season.
Things failed to improve in his third season, and Eriksen finally bowed out of Old Trafford by scoring from the spot in the final game of last season, helping United secure a 2-0 win. The Dane has had a mixed campaign so far since moving to the Bundesliga in September last year.
Eriksen’s time at Bundesliga so far
Eriksen took his time before opting to join Wolfsburg last year, signing a two-year deal. However, he has had to deal with a relegation battle at the Volkswagen Arena this season, with the club currently 15th in the league table, just one point ahead of the relegation zone.
The Dane has been heavily involved with the Wolves this season, registering one goal and five assists in 21 games in all competitions, 17 of which have been starts.

But with Wolfsburg just above the relegation play-off spot on goal difference, they remain in real danger of slipping down to Bundesliga 2. While this is all new territory for Eriksen, the player insists he has no regrets about joining the German side.
Happy to play regularly
Speaking to Kicker, Eriksen insisted that he is enjoying the experience. He said: “I was actually mostly on the ‘other side’. At many of the clubs I played for, it was more about the top 10.”
“Brentford was perhaps the only exception. And at VfL, it’s actually my first time in a relegation battle. But that’s football, and in the end, it’s an experience that’s part of the game.”
The Dane was also asked if he has any regrets about choosing Wolfsburg, and he responded: “No. That was a decision I made at the time. I wanted to play football, and that’s what I’m doing here.”
“Of course, you always want to be in the best possible team and compete for titles. But that’s not our situation right now. The important thing is that we can still achieve something good here in the end. It felt right for me then, and it still feels right now.”
Final Thoughts
With Eriksen already in the twilight of his career, United were correct in their decision to part ways last summer. The Red Devils are already looking to inject more quality into their midfield this year, so the Dane’s departure was a step in the right direction.
