A new ‘Harold & Kumar’ film is in the works

A new Harold & Kumar film is reportedly in development – find out more below.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald have finalised a deal with Lionsgate’s Mandate Pictures for a fourth Harold & Kumar film.

Hurwitz and Schlossberg will direct the stoner movie, while all three Cobra Kai creators pen the script. Hurwitz and Shclossberg have worked on every Harold & Kumar project to date, having written the script for all three films and making their directorial debuts with Harold & Kumar Escape Guantanamo Bay.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, franchise stars John Cho (Harold) and Kal Penn (Kumar) are expected to reprise their roles, though deals have not yet been struck. It is currently unknown if Neil Patrick Harris, who made cameo appearances in all three existing films, will return.

While details surrounding Harold & Kumar 4‘s plot have yet to be revealed, writers Hurwit and Schlossberg have hinted at the titular pair passing the torch to a younger generation: “We’re fired up to bring Harold and Kumar back in a return to the unapologetically R-rated, smoke-filled chaos that started it all. It’s high time they puff and pass their wisdom onto a new generation. Just don’t tell their kids.”

The Harold & Kumar franchise began in 2004 with Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle – or Harold & Kumar Get The Munchies in the UK. They returned in 2008 with an immediate follow-up, Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay. The latest film in the trilogy was 2011’s A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.

A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas saw the pair grow estranged from each other with age, only to reconnect to solve a Christmas crisis.

A release date for Harold & Kumar 4 has yet to be announced.
