7 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

MEMORIALS – “DROPPED DOWN THE WELL”

“We’re always keen to be looking forward, so for touring the last record we wanted at least one new song in the set and this was it,” MEMORIALS’ Matthew Simms says of their very catchy new single. “It’s a good one to play live, with its twists and turns and a proper chorus! It was nice to see the reaction it received – I particularly remember the enthusiastic audience response last summer at some of the French festivals, in particularly La Route Du Rock and also an amazing little festival in Saint-Cadou, and feeling reassured about where we were heading with the new record.” New album All Clouds Bring Not Rain is out March 27.

FCUKERS – “IF YOU WANNA PARTY, COME OVER TO MY HOUSE”

Fcukers have given us another taste of their debut LP Ö with the infectious “If You Wanna Party, Come Over To My House.”

NEW PORNOGRAPHERS – “SPOOKY ACTION”

“’Spooky action at a distance’ is an idea from Albert Einstein, coined to describe quantum entanglement, says New Pornographers’ AC Newman of his band’s new single. (Yes it’s also the title of a Deerhunter album.) You know, where paired particles influence each other despite any distance between them, however large or small. I know almost nothing about quantum theory so forgive my clumsy descriptions and facile explanations. Spooky action. A connection that seems basically impossible but quantum entanglement is indeed ‘a thing’. I don’t need to know that much about it. I just need to be fascinated by the idea. That’s enough for a song. I like the idea of being linked with something at an impossible distance. It is not that far from an idea of heaven. The idea of still being connected with things that are gone.” New album Continue as Guest is out March 31.

MATT BERNINGER & ROSANNE CASH – “WHO LOVES THE SUN” (VELVET UNDERGROUND COVER)

Matt Berninger has contributed a cover of The Velvet Underground’s “Who Loves the Sun” to new series Sunny Nights that stars Will Forte and Darcy Carden. The cover features the great Roseanne Cash on backing vocals. Says Matt: “I’ve been a [series creator] Trent O’Donnell fan for a long time. We became good friends when he cast my brother, Tom, in an episode of his show No Activity, and we’ve had a close, creative bond ever since. When he asked me to cover the Velvet Underground for Sunny Nights, I immediately thought of it as a duet with Rose and John [Leventhal] . We recorded it in their Chelsea brownstone last summer. John did most of the work while Rose and I drank chardonnay in the garden in the sun.”

TRASHCAN SINATRAS – “THE BITTER END”

Scottish indie greats Trashcan Sinatras are back with their first new music in nearly four years and “The Bitter End” is as sweet as the rest of their catalog.

CASHIER – “THE WEIGHT”

Louisiana band Cashier have shared the title track of their debut EP, The Weight. “As the title track of the EP, I wanted to tie the themes of all the songs together,” bandleader Kylie Gaspard says. “In this song, we wanted to create something that honored the influences that came before us. While staying true to having the guitar as the focal point, the lyrics make this a coming-of-age piece, trying to find where we fit in this life, and how we long for connection.”

MAYA HAWKE – “DEVIL YOU KNOW”

Maya Hawke has announced a new album, Maitreya Corso, which will be out May 1 via Mom + Pop. She made it with a few longtime collaborators, including her new husband Christian Lee Hutson, Benjamin Lazar Davis and producer Jonathan Low. Here’s the first single.
