“We knew the challenges”: Major doubt cast on the future of record-breaking former United star

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has endured an incredibly challenging few years.

Man United career

Pogba joined the Manchester United academy in 2009 from Le Havre and made his senior debut during the 2011/2012 season.

The Frenchman left the club after making just seven first-team appearances and moved to Juventus, where he spent four successful seasons.

He made a sensational return to Manchester United in 2016 when the club paid a record fee of £89 million for his services.

In total, he played 226 more times for the club between 2016 and 2022 before leaving once again on a free transfer to Juventus.

Sadly, his second spell in Italy was marred by injury, and he was later banned from the sport for failing a drugs test.

He was originally suspended for four years, but his ban was reduced to 18 months after appeal.

The World Cup winner did leave the Old Lady, but he was picked up by Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in the summer; however, his time back in France has been nothing short of a disaster.

Monaco suffering

Pogba has only managed three appearances from the substitute bench this season and has not played for the club this calendar year.

Monaco are reportedly at the “end of their rope” with the star and reportedly have no idea when the player will be fit enough to return to full fitness.

Future in severe doubt

In comments carried by Alfredo Pedulla, Thiago Scuro, Monaco’s CEO, spoke about the former Juventus player.

He asserted, “Paul is a very talented player and at a different level than we’re used to in Ligue 1. We knew the challenge of bringing him back would be tough. Obviously, it also has an impact in terms of visibility for the league, for AS Monaco.”

Scuro seemed to place massive doubt on the Frenchman’s future when he stated, “given what’s happening, both parties will discuss this summer whether Paul is still willing to undertake this process.”
