So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
THE HIVES – “ROLL OUT THE RED CARPET”
Music videos aren’t what they used to be…unless you’re The Hives who consistently deliver the goods. Case in point: “Roll Out the Red Carpet” which is from last year’s awesome The Hives Forever Forever the Hives. They say: “The votes are in! Thanks to the marvels of big brother surveillance tech we know you love to listen to ROLL OUT THE RED CARPET. To celebrate we made a video for it. Our friend Cissi Efraimsson has crafted our likeness in clay much as ancient civilizations made of THEIR gods and filmed them in a fever dream of a story. In other news we just got back from a RIDICULOUSLY successful LATAM tour with My Chemical Romance where we made hundreds of thousands of new fans and had the time of our lives. What have you been up to?”

CHEEKFACE – “HOSTILE STREET”
About their new single “Hostile Street,” Cheekface say, “So, an increasingly cruel society is encroaching on people who are basically good and friendly and just trying to do their thing. I know that, you know that, we all know that. Me and Mandy saw it in hostile street furniture – those bus benches that have uncomfortable decorations to make it impossible for homeless folks and other tired persons to lay down. Most people are not going to go to war against the encroachingly cruel society’s effect on our daily lives. We are going to attempt to accommodate it so we can continue trying to do our thing. Even as its demands on us grow greater and greater and greater. That is basically what this song is about. By the way. The first voice you hear on ‘Hostile Street’ is Stubbs barking while we were starting the demo of this song. Stubbs crossed the rainbow bridge between starting and finishing this, so we wanted to let him have the first word on this era of the band.”

THE WOMACK SISTERS – “YOU WENT AWAY TOO LONG”
BG, Zeimani, and Kucha Womack, three sisters whose uncle was Bobby Womack, have signed to Daptone and just released their first single for the label. “This song holds a deep meaning that’s different for each of us,” they say. “Imagine precious time stolen from your life, slipping away like sand through an hourglass, as your loved ones slowly forget the sound of your laughter. ‘You Went Away Too Long’ is a song about love and life interrupted.”
—
ACCESSORY – “SAFEWORD”
DEHD singer and guitarist Jason Balla is releasing his debut album as Accessory, Dust, in April, and the second single is “Safeword.” ““With ‘Safeword’ I wanted you to feel the pull of gravity,” he says. “It’s about getting lost into someone else’s world, about being consumed and out of your depth. It’s a whole mess of power and passion, pursuit and magic and the resilience that love requires of you. The video is shot in the studio room where I recorded the record. In it I’m constantly being pulled apart and reassembled which was a way to play with the idea of how intimacy reshapes us, sometimes in ways we don’t quite recognize.”
