Drama, spectacle and division as Trump delivers contentious State of the Union address

US President Donald Trump boasted Tuesday of a “turnaround for the ages” in his State of the Union speech, seeking to reverse dismal polls and see off mounting challenges at home and abroad ahead of crucial midterm elections. It was also a speech marked by drama with the divisions rife in US politics and society on full display. At one moment as Trump praised his immigration enforcement, Democrat Ilhan Omar, who represents a Minneapolis US House district, shouted in his direction, “You have killed Americans!”
