So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

SWAPMEET – “I KNOW!”
Australian band Swapmeet have signed to Winspear and shared their first single for the label, “I Know!” Vocalist and guitarist Venus O’Broin says, “‘I Know!’ was written accidentally – a song arising from an in-between practice jam. Unlike the other songs on the album, this song kind of wrote itself. The lyrics alike arose pretty spontaneously too, without much over-analysing or fluff. I Know! I Know! I Know! You know?”

MONSTER RALLY – “FLIGHT TO CAPRI”
Monster Rally’s latest single from upcoming album Echoes of the Emerald Sands samples the great Henry Mancini’s 1961 track “Lujon.” “One of the first songs I remember loving as a kid was the Pink Panther theme,” says Monster Rally. “As an adult, I have a collection of Mancini records and soundtracks. He was truly the master of making cinematic music. For ‘Flight to Capri,’ I was hoping to create something familiar but unexpected. I wanted my instrumentation to complement the lush strings and guide it in a different cinematic direction. The finished track is my version of the opening credits of a 60s tropical spy movie set in a sun-soaked location.”

JUST PENELOPE – “FEEL SO”
Bloomington, IN trio Just Penelope say “Feel So” is the final track of their first batch of recordings. “‘Feel So’ was our first step as Just Penelope — before basement rehearsals, bar shows — before there was a band,” they say. “The song recognizes the pitfalls of choosing pain over being alone. We didn’t expect much out of it; this was the product of wanting to make music with people we love.”

MARIA TAYLOR – “NEVER THOUGHT I’D FEEL NEW”
“This song says exactly what it means – melodically, musically, and lyrically,” Maria Taylor says of “Never Thought I’d Feel New,” the latest single from her first solo album in more than seven years, Story’s End. “It’s about how rare and fortunate it is to feel new again. It’s about breaking out of the confines of our own thoughts. of other people’s thoughts. It’s about letting go, gaining clarity, and feeling alive. I started writing this song 6 years ago. I would send tracks to my friend, Brad Armstrong, who would add a bunch of cool shit and send it back. This went on for years, as I kept changing the chords, the melodies, and the words. I would get frustrated and shelve it for months at a time. We got my brother, Macey Taylor, to play bass and Louis Schefano to play drums. Finally, in a last attempt to finish it, I asked my friend, Nik Freitas, to take a stab at writing a melody for the chorus. That was the missing link!! It was done
The track was produced by Brad Armstrong, mixed by Ben Brodin and mastered by Doug VanSloun.”

COURTNEY BARNETT – “MANTIS” & “SUGAR PLUM”
Courtney Barnett has given us two more previews of her anticipated fourth album, Creature of Habit, “Mantis” and “Sugar Plum.” “‘Mantis’ is the microcosmic centerpiece of this album, it embodies the message and meaning of every track,” she says. “It’s a song about searching, and it helped me find my way through Creature Of Habit. I was feeling particularly lost while I was working on this song. One day, I was standing in the kitchen, making a coffee, when I noticed a little green praying mantis sitting on top of the doorframe. I had never seen one there in the desert house, so I took it as an important sign from the universe. I texted a photo to Stella and she said it’s good luck, look it up! I did a quick search and found it to also represent patience, perseverance and a guide for those who needed direction. I stood and spoke to the mantis for a while, it was a strange and enlightening moment that I’ll never forget. Eventually, I got back to writing, and finally I had the chorus to this song.”

SUNGLACIERS – “ONLY LOVE”
Calgary quartet Sunglaciers will release their fourth album Spiritual Content on March 27 and they’ve just shared this new dark and danceable single. They say: “Only love can upend your lifestyle, change your patterns. You’re young, you’re out at parties all the time. Then something happens. Years pass in an instant. Maybe you found love, or self-love, or something else. Got healthy. Got busy. Where you used to go out, now you stay in. The party’s not over; it rages on in your memories. This video is kind of an illustration of those memories.”

BIBI CLUB – “GEORGE SAND”
Montreal’s Bibi Club will release their third album, Amaro, this week and here’s another seductive, groovy preview. They say: “The writer George Sand was not only a strong, feminist and radical person, she was also a renowned botanist. This song is inspired by her manifesto for the survival of the Fontainebleau forest, an ode to life and nature, to the plants and trees that guide us. A song full of thirst for life, about the force of nature and the therapeutic benefits it provides. Nico quickly programmed the bass and the 606 drum machine, then everything fell into place, like the song. It was evident that the song needed our friend, radical artist Dimitri Milbrun to add some incendiary saxophone. At the end of the song, the guitar and saxophone blend together to form a force that destroys everything in its path.”
