United reach final decision on bombshell €80m raid for 6’4 Serie A-winning juggernaut – report

Manchester United remain linked with a blockbuster move for their former player Scott McTominay this year. The Red Devils are looking for a new midfielder this summer to address Casemiro’s impending departure.

The Brazilian has already announced that he will leave Old Trafford once his contract expires at the end of this season. With Manuel Ugarte also failing to impress, the English giants are keen to add more quality to the middle of the park before the start of the new campaign.

United have enjoyed tremendous success with their recent strategy of signing Premier League-proven players, and they are eyeing several midfielders who have experience playing in the top tier of English football.

Recent reports have also stated that the Red Devils are also considering McTominay’s fairytale return to bolster their midfield this year.

McTominay’s spell at Old Trafford

McTominay rose through the ranks at Old Trafford before breaking into the first team under former manager Jose Mourinho. The Scot became a mainstay in the starting XI following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival, although he continued to divide opinion among fans and pundits.

The Norwegian’s departure affected McTominay’s game time and he finally left the Theatre of Dreams permanently in the summer of 2024 to join Napoli. The 29 year old helped the Partenopei win Serie A in his debut campaign, endearing himself to fans.

McFratm has been in top form this year as well, registering 10 goals and four assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

A recent report relayed by The Peoples Person states that United are impressed with the player’s resurgence in Italy and are willing to pay around €80 million to prise him away. An update on the situation has now emerged.

United not eyeing McTominay

According to TEAMtalk, United are not working on an offer for McTominay at the moment. The report states: “Manchester United have firmly distanced themselves from claims that they are looking to bring Scott McTominay back to the club, despite a report suggesting he could make a shock £70million return to Old Trafford.”

“We can confirm that United and McTominay have had no contact about a return, and indeed his camp have begun talks over a new contract with Napoli, with his current deal running until 2028.”

“Contrary to the rumours of a potential Napoli departure, our understanding is that McTominay will commit his future to the Italian side and remain in Naples for years to come.”

The report adds that the Serie A champions are keen to complete the renewal process before the start of the summer’s FIFA World Cup, so a return to Old Trafford appears unlikely.

Final Thoughts

United have moved on from McTominay and are now focusing on younger targets such as Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson, and Adam Wharton. While the Scot’s rise in Italy is commendable, it is highly likely that his chapter at the Theatre of Dreams is over.
