10 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

POPULATION II – “MAGOUILLEUX”

Montreal’s Population II are back with the Gimmick EP on April 3 via Bonsound. “It’s an extension of the electronic sounds we explored on Maintenant Jamais, with tracks like ’13 1 3 1′ and ‘Poudreuse Blues,’ says the band’s Pierre-Luc Gratton. “Even though we added upright piano and fuzz bass to some of the songs, our number one rule for this project was: keyboards and synthesizers, first and foremost! This is why they decided to ditch the guitar completely on these new songs, once again demonstrating the extent of their versatility.”

MARIA BC – “RARE”

“This is a song about being in love with someone who never sleeps,” Maria BC says of “Rare,” the final advance single off her new album Marathon, which is out this Friday. “I’m proud of the chaotic arrangement – the skittering percussion, the discordant twang of my ancient zither.”

NOTHING – “NEVER COME NEVER MORNING”

Nothing’s new album A Short History of Decay is out this week, and it finds the band balancing their shoegaze side with a greater emphasis on acoustic guitar-driven ballads, and this is a great example of the latter.

070 SHAKE – “IF YOU’RE FREE”

070 Shake calls her hushed new single a “little thing while we wait for the next thing.” It follows her 2024 album Petrichor.

KING TUFF – “INVISIBLE INK”

“I made MOO in the opposite of how I had been working in the computer,” King Tuff’s Kyle Thomas says of his new album. “Spending hours moving waveforms around like a zombie, comping vocals, second-guessing, trying to make things sound not lifeless, trying to make anything sound good at all, took months. But here on the tape it was so much more alive. More like painting or collaging. More like making actual music. Every move I made stuck like super glue. It was effortless. It was pure joy.” MOO is out March 27 and “Invisible Ink” is the new single.

COOTIE CATCHER – “QUARTER NOTE ROCK”

cootie catcher’s new album Something We All Got arrives this Friday (2/27) via Carpark, and they’ve shared a final advance single. “‘Quarter Note Rock’ is about putting yourself out there on public display and not expecting perfection,” guitarist/singer Nolan Jakupovski says. “Often writers feel nervous being so open in their lyrics but it’s those moments of vulnerability that people relate to most. Don’t be afraid to fall flat on your face, someone will say ‘literally me!’”

HOLD MY OWN – “COUNTDOWN”

Chicago hardcore band Hold My Own have dropped a new single, “Countdown,” which finds Gregory Falchetto putting his gravelly bark over some thrash riffage and a nice moshable groove.
