Tourists and residents urged to stay indoors amid Mexico cartel violence

Mexico was on high alert Monday with schools closed and travelers stranded, as members of a powerful cartel launched violent rampages after the death of the country’s most-wanted drug lord. In some towns tourists and residents were urged to stay indoors. Airlines, including Air Canada, United Airlines and Aeromexico, cancelled flights to Puerto Vallarta, a beachside resort town where stunned tourists ‌filmed plumes of smoke rising into the sky from fires.
