Paris police shoot knife attacker

France’s counterterrorism authorities have launched a new investigation after a knife-wielding assailant was shot dead by police Friday evening near the Arc de Triomphe. The attacker reportedly attempted to assault gendarmes who were preparing for the relighting of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. President Emmanuel Macron condemned the incident and lauded the rapid response of security forces. Yinka Oyetade reports.
