United player plunges to rock bottom as he suffers another crushing setback at loan club – report

Manchester United loanee Toby Collyer has suffered a new injury blow at Hull City, ruling him out of their upcoming FA Cup clash with Chelsea.

Collyer’s woes

Collyer joined Hull during the January transfer window after a frustrating spell with West Bromwich Albion.

He signed for West Brom in the summer and looked poised for a big role in the team, but injuries prevented him from nailing down a consistent run of performances and results.

Fitness issues limited Collyer to just 12 appearances for the Baggies. He managed one assist in that period.

As with all loanees, United inserted a break clause in the terms that sent Collyer to West Brom. The Red Devils exercised this option in January, recalling the midfielder to the club to undergo treatment.

Having missed out on Collyer last summer, Hull re-entered the fray and this time secured the Englishman’s signature. Collyer made his debut for the promotion-chasing Championship outfit last weekend as they were beaten 3-2 by Bristol City.

Collyer came on from the bench in the closing stages of the contest.

However, he will be unable to build on the cameo, with HullLive reporting that he sustained a fresh injury in training.

Massive Collyer setback

HullLive reveal that Collyer picked up a hamstring injury in training on Wednesday. The 22-year-old will be assessed in the next couple of days. As such, he will have to wait for his full Hull debut.

Speaking to reporters, Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic emphasised the importance of balancing the need to go deep into the FA Cup and keeping an eye on promotion to the Championship, with the Tigers currently in fourth place and seven points adrift of table leaders Middlesbrough.

Jakirovic said about the injured players including Collyer, “We have seven games in 22 days, starting from QPR, so we have to be smart. Who 50/50 is better not to play, and we can use this week to make sure they are healthy and one hundred per cent. Some have played three games in a week and are only on seventy per cent.”

“They are aware of problems. They know if they will play this game, maybe they will be out for weeks, so I think it’s better to skip this game.”

“We are struggling in some positions, especially so, but we will see tomorrow (Thursday) because we have one more session, and then I will decide who will be available.”

Collyer made his senior United debut in August 2024, becoming the club’s 251st Academy graduate.
