“That’s going to hamper it”: insider casts huge doubt on chances of Rashford reunion with Carrick at United – exclusive

As we move closer to the end of the 2025/26 season, Marcus Rashford’s future remains uncertain.

The Manchester United star fell out with former head coach Ruben Amorim and demanded to be loaned to FC Barcelona, where he has enjoyed some success, with 10 goals and 10 assists in 34 games.

Barcelona have an option to buy Rashford outright for €30 million, but have not yet exercised that option, raising the real possibility that the Wythenshawe man could end up back at Old Trafford this summer.

Meanwhile, Amorim has been sacked by United and has been replaced by Michael Carrick. It is an interim appointment, but the excellent start to his tenure – four straight wins and a draw – leaves him with an excellent chance of securing the job on a permanent basis.

A way back for Rashford?

One man who knows both Carrick and Rashford well is legendary United defender, Wes Brown. In an exclusive interview with the former England man hosted by Betwright, we asked him if he thinks there is a way back to the Manchester United squad for the wantaway striker.

“I think it’s a tough one, because the way it all happened, the way he left, I’m pretty sure Marcus is enjoying himself there [at Barcelona]”, Brown said.

“ If that was to happen [returning], I think you’re in another situation … Is it time to move on again? Would the club lower the price, maybe? I don’t know. But It would all depend on the new manager.”

Would Carrick and Rashford work well together?

And if that new manager was Carrick, someone who played alongside Rashford at United?

“If the connection is there, obviously, there’s no problem with Michael,” he said.

“But you’d have to really look forward. So for instance, Marcus has come back and you’re in a two-year contract. Is that going to work with the plans?” Rashford’s contract at United ends in June 2028, so with a new deal unlikely, the club might prefer to cash in now when they are in a strong position.

“I would love to see it happen, but sometimes it passes you by, it goes, and it’s unfortunate. But that’s what happens in most things.”

“So If it was all nice and everybody was happy, then I wouldn’t have a problem. But the way it ended, you just think that’s going to hamper it a little bit along the way.”
