Steve Coogan has reportedly joined the cast for the upcoming fourth season of HBO’s hit show The White Lotus.
The anthology series is set in different branches of a chain of luxury hotels and is scheduled to begin filming its next set of episodes in the spring, with this season’s location switching to France, after seasons in Hawaii, Sicily and Thailand.
According to Variety, Coogan will be one of the stars of the new season, although it remains unknown who he will be playing. Each new season introduces a largely new set of characters, with Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya McQuoid, Natasha Rothwell’s Belinda Lindsey and Jon Gries’s Greg Hunt being the rare recurring characters so far.
Also announced is Australian newcomer Caleb Jonte Edwards, as well as Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games, Lone Survivor) and AJ Michalka (The Lovely Bones, The Goldbergs).
It was reported last month that Helena Bonham Carter was being lined up for the new season too, although that remains unconfirmed.
NME awarded season three of The White Lotus four stars, writing: “A little sweetness definitely helps to balance out the prevailing saltiness. As the season progresses, the sneaky intricacy of White’s plotting begins to yield surreal, shocking and genuinely hilarious moments. No one can write a scene where one character pretends not to remember another quite as exquisitely as White. Tanya may be gone, but this transgressive soap opera remains unique and completely jaw-dropping.”
It was also named as one of NME’s best television shows of 2025.
After that season was released, reports emerged of a rift between its stars Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins, although both actors pushed back against the rumours, with Goggins saying they “care about each other very deeply”.
As for Coogan, he is set to reunite with Rob Brydon for a new season of The Trip, with Sky confirming last summer that The Trip To The Northern Lights will be the fifth season.
An Alan Partridge fan convention, titled ‘We’re Just Fans, Alan’, is also set to hit Norwich in February next year, while the character’s co-writers recently cast doubt over whether he would join Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party.
