Mitski has been heavily teasing her new album over the past few weeks (starting with a post-credits scene in her 2025 concert film), and she’s now officially announced Nothing’s About to Happen to Me. It’s the follow up to The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We (our favorite album of 2023) and it’s due out on February 27 via Dead Oceans. It was produced and engineered by her longtime collaborator Patrick Hyland, and it features live orchestration arranged and conducted by Drew Erickson. See the cover art and tracklist below, and pre-order on vinyl and CD in the BV shop.
According to a press release, the album “finds Mitski immersing herself in a rich narrative whose main character is a reclusive woman in an unkempt house. Outside of her home, she is a deviant; inside of her home, she is free.” That definitely comes across in the vivid and hallucinatory video for the first single, “Where’s My Phone,” which was directed by Noel Paul, and based on Shirley Jackson’s novel We Have Always Lived in the Castle. Watch it below.
