Charlotte Cornfield has announced Hurts Like Hell which is her sixth album and first for Merge Records. It’s out March 27. She produced the album herself and it features contributions from Feist, Buck Meek, Christian Lee Hutson, and Maia Friedman.
The first single from Hurts Like Hell is the title track. “This song is about someone getting over deep insecurities and inhibitions and putting themselves out there,” Cornfield explains. “These two characters in the song have clearly experienced a lot of pain and are pushing themselves to move past it and connect with one another. It’s a shy people love story. The pedal steel/full band/country-tinged approach felt fitting for this one, and Buck’s backing vocals really sent it.”
The video for “Hurts Like Hell” was directed by Scott Jacobson (Bob’s Burgers, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) and stars actor James Urbaniak (Henry Fool, American Splendour). Watch that below.
Charlotte has a few live dates lined up this spring, including an album release party at Brooklyn’s Public Records on March 31. There are also shows in Chicago, Los Angeles and Toronto and all dates are listed below.
