United’s shot at landing Amorim’s dream target dented by PL side’s latest stance – report

Manchester United’s hunt for the perfect midfield addition could be about to get dearer if the latest reports are to be believed.

Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson has now jumped to the top of United’s target list following a stunning display against Ruben Amorim’s side.

His impressive form saw Forest slap a £100 million price tag on his head. That effectively meant a January switch was off the cards.

And now, with Manchester City also entering the race, the England international’s price is expected to go up even more.

Elliot Anderson to cost even more

As per Football Insider, Forest expect their midfield talisman to star for Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions next summer in the World Cup.

And they will demand in excess of £100 million for the 23-year-old. With Elliot Anderson having a contract at the City Ground until 2029, Forest remain in the driver’s seat and do not need to lower their valuation..

“Nottingham Forest are likely to increase their £100million asking price for Elliot Anderson next summer, sources have told Football Insider.

“The midfielder has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent months, and his performances have seen him become one of the hottest properties in the Premier League ahead of the January transfer window.

“However, Forest are set to make any move impossible for the 23-year-old in January, with Pep Guardiola’s side also reluctant to spend £100m in the middle of the campaign.

“Anderson is expected to be a crucial part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans for next summer’s World Cup in North America, and some strong displays there could give Forest even more power.

“Sources have told Football Insider that the East Midlands outfit are prepared to raise their asking price for Anderson even further if he stars for England during the international tournament.”

That could end United’s chances

Should this come to pass, United will likely end their pursuit. As things stand, Elliot Anderson prefers a move to The Etihad over Old Trafford.

Amorim needs help, given Casemiro’s contract situation and Manuel Ugarte’s struggles. He also refuses to trust Kobbie Mainoo in a deeper position.

Carlos Baleba was initially Amorim’s top priority, but his form has fallen off a cliff. However, his valuation has come down as a result with Brighton more open to a sale.

That could mean he once again become de facto No. 1 on United’s list. There is also Adam Wharton but Crystal Palace will likely make it tough for his suitors to sign him.
