Former Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has faced the wrath of the Football Association (FA).
United career
The Tunisian international joined Manchester United’s academy in 2019 from AS Monaco.
He spent some time in the youth teams before making his senior debut in 2021.
Hannibal spent the 2022-2023 season on loan at Birmingham City, before getting a run of games for the senior United side during 2023-2024.
The Tunisian midfielder scored his only goal for the club in a 1-3 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in September 2023.
He left United in the summer of 2024 to join Burnley and played an integral part in their gaining promotion to the Premier League.
Controversy
The 22-year-old has played in 13 Premier League matches this season, making one assist during this time.
The former United man was officially charged by the FA. In October, he was charged by the organisation for spitting at two Leeds United supporters during their match with Burnley.
It reportedly occurred while he was warming up to come on as a substitute during the tie.
Ban
The Sun report that, “Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has been handed a four-match ban after being found guilty of spitting.”
Additionally, “the former Manchester United starlet has also been slapped with a £15,000 fine.”
Mejbri has not contested the charge or the ban for his actions.
Hannibal will miss matches against Newcastle United, Fulham, AFC Bournemouth, and Everton.
Nonetheless, Burnley were already prepared to lose the midfielder from 15th December as he will link up with Tunisia for the African Cup of Nations later this month.
