Former Manchester United defender’s Championship revival hopes hit by fresh setback – report

Former Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams has had a tough time of it lately.

United career

Williams came through the Manchester United academy and made his first-team debut in 2019.

In his debut campaign, he was a regular under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, playing 36 times.

He would finally finish with 51 appearances and one goal for the Red Devils.

Career fell apart

Things would only go downhill for Williams as he rarely got first-team chances and was sent out on loan to both Norwich City and Ipswich Town.

In June 2024, his contract expired and he left Manchester United. Earlier that year, he had been charged with reckless driving and he pleaded guilty.

In May 2025, he was sentenced to a 14-month jail term, which was suspended for two years.

Lifeline at Hull City

The 25-year-old was given the chance to rebuild his career when he joined Championship side Hull City in the summer after spending one year as a free agent.

In an interview in August, Williams spoke of his delight at returning to training and opened up on his goals to reach the top level of football again.

Nightmare

Sadly, Williams has only played five minutes of Championship football all season and his dream already looks dead.

Hull manager, Sergej Jakirovic, whilst speaking to BBC Radio Humberside, claimed, “he (Williams) felt yesterday his calf a little bit so he will go on MRI. We are waiting [for] news and also we made one plan for him, six weeks plan, that he has a rhythm of games.”

He explained that Williams has been playing for the Under-21s and that after the injury, there needs to be a decision taken in January. He also added that whilst Williams has “shown something” in these matches, he is unsure whether it is enough for the Championship.

The coach added, “(whether) he will stay with us (or) he will fight for his place, so he will continue forward maybe, to change clubs, but we will see.”
