Ladytron have announced their eighth album, Paradises, which will be out March 20 via Nettwerk. The album was produced by the band’s Daniel Hunt with sessions in Liverpool, São Paulo, Montrose, Dalston, and London, with mixing duties handled by longtime collaborator Jim Abbiss.
While always an electronic band, Ladytron have made their most dancefloor-forward album with Paradises. “There’s an itch we never scratched,” Hunt says, “which is that despite our origins in the DJ world, we never actually made a ‘disco’ record. Albeit, ‘disco’ in our context has a somewhat different meaning.”
The first single from the album is “Kingdom Undersea,” which adds a little early-’90s baggy/madchester house to Ladytron’s icy sound. It’s also a duet between vocalist Helen Marnie and Hunt which hasn’t happened much in Ladytron’s career. It’s an awesome, moody banger, and you can watch the video, filmed in a video installation originally designed for the KLF, below.
