Roy Keane pulls back no punches as he fires response to Rashford’s controversial United claim

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has issued a response to Marcus Rashford after the player suggested that the club are to blame for his career inconsistencies.

Rashford appears to blame United for his woes

Earlier this week, Rashford spoke to ITV and opened up on the inconsistent performances that have plagued his professional career.

Rashford has enjoyed an uptick in form and fortunes since sealing a loan move to Barcelona during the summer transfer window.

He earned a call-up to the England squad for the October internationals under Thomas Tuchel, who nevertheless stressed that the forward must find consistency to reach true world-class status.

Asked about this in his interview, Rashford admitted as much but noted that he has been operating in an inconsistent environment, which had undoubtedly affected his displays.

On Tuesday, Keane weighed in on the matter, arguing that Rashford was part of the wider problem at United and must therefore take some responsibility for his own struggles.

Keane responds to Rashford

Keane said [as quoted by the Daily Mail], “Towards the end of his time at United, there was obviously issues. He was part of the problem with the environment, especially one of the most experienced players at United.”

“He should have been setting the standards and showing new people at he club what it’s like to be a United player. But that’s been well documented. What we have to look at is he’s got this chance now with England and he deserved it.”

The legendary United captain added, “No doubt about his talent, he’s obviously fantastic. But the bit that would have frustrated fans is his body language, not running back or not pressing properly.”

“That’s the things he needs to tidy up and if he does there’s no reason he can’t become a world-class player.”

Rashford, who made his senior debut for United under Louis van Gaal in 2016, featured for a further four permanent and three interim managers at Old Trafford.

Rashford’s United contract runs until June 2028.
