Patti Smith performs ‘People Have The Power’ with Johnny Depp at London ‘Horses’ show

Patti Smith was joined on stage by Johnny Depp to perform ‘People Have The Power’ at her London concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of ‘Horses’. Watch the moment below.

The actor joined Smith during the first of two consecutive nights at the London Palladium, coming out on Sunday (October 12) during the encore. Depp played guitar on the album track ‘People Have the Power’, with Smith’s daughter Jesse on keyboards.

At the start of her encore, Smith introduced her entire band to the audience and then added: “And Johnny? And Johnny Depp? The original Johnny.” It was a reference to the line, “the boy looked at Johnny” from her track ‘Land / Horses’.

Earlier this year, Depp gave a surprise performance at the People Have the Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith tribute concert, in New York. He appeared to play ‘Dancing Barefoot’ with The Kills‘ Alison Mosshart, who took to the stage earlier in the bill for a rendition of ‘Ask the Angels’.

Depp previously joined Smith and Pearl Jam‘s Eddie Vedder back in 2010 to play the song together as part of the Voices for Justice Rally Little Rock gig. In 2012, Depp appeared on Smith’s album ‘Banga’, where he played drums and guitar on the title track.

The singer-songwriter is currently celebrating her iconic 1975 record with her band, including two members of the original group, Lenny Kaye and Jay Dee Daugherty, along with keyboardist/bassist Tony Shanahan, who has been in the line-up for 30 years.
