The Starting Line are gearing up to release their first album in 18 years, Eternal Youth, this Friday (9/26) via the band’s own Lineage Records label, so we thought it’d be interesting to ask singer/bassist Ken Vasoli what some of his favorite comeback albums are. Filmed with Ken sitting on a park bench on a beautiful summer day, he discussed five albums (plus three honorable mentions) with us, ranging from veteran emo/punk bands that paved the way for The Starting Line (Lifetime’s 2007 self-titled album and Braid’s 2014 album No Coast) to some music that’s much different from Ken’s own band (The Avalanches, D’Angelo). It’s a very cool list and Ken had a lot of interesting stuff to say about each one, including about how some of them helped inspire Eternal Youth. Watch below.
Ken plays a solo set in Woodstock, NY this week (9/25), and The Starting Line also have some West Coast dates coming up after they play When We Were Young. After that, they open one of Hot Mulligan’s Detroit holiday shows and play Andrew McMahon’s 2026 Holiday From Real cruise.
And for even more Starting Line, we recently looked back on their 2005 sophomore album Based on a True Story in our list of 20 emo albums turning 20 this year.
