The Avett Brothers & Mike Patton are releasing an album together (hear the first single)

Here’s a collaboration we weren’t expecting. Scott and Seth Avett of The Avett Brothers and Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, etc) have teamed up to form AVTT/PTTN, and they have a new self-titled album on the way, due out November 14 via Thirty Tigers in association with Ramseur and Ipecac. The Avetts and Patton wrote it together, sending songs back and forth to each other, and it was produced by Patton, Scott, and Dana Nielsen. See the cover art and tracklist below.

“Mike’s part of our DNA, like the fabric of our youth,” Scott says. “Literally, we studied him. He’s a dear friend now, but when we were younger, I was imitating him.”

“My peculiar challenge in this was to become a long distant cousin,” Patton adds. “A brother that was orphaned. Maybe they kept him in the chicken coop or some shit. They brought him out years and years later.”

The first single is “Eternal Love,” which starts out as a pretty standard folk song before introducing a noisy portion part of the way through. Hear it below.
