Florence + The Machine have shared a preview of a new song called ‘One Of The Greats’. Listen below.
The London band are due to release their sixth studio album ‘Everybody Scream’ on October 31, and have already previewed the project with its epic title track.
Now, frontwoman Florence Welch has posted a brief snippet of what is likely to be her next single.
“I clawed up from under the earth/ Broken nails and coughing dirt/ Spitting out my songs so/ You can sing along, oh,” Welch sings over a raw, electric guitar part in a stripped-back verse.
In the caption, Welch added: “Did I get it right? Do I win the prize? Do you regret bringing me back to life?”
Elsewhere, fans on Reddit have reported that Ethel Cain was credited on the forthcoming ‘One Of The Greats’ in the description of a now-deleted preview clip on YouTube. No release date has been confirmed, at the time of writing.

Florence + The Machine’s new album features contributions from IDLES‘ Mark Bowen, Mitski, and The National’s Aaron Dessner – all of whom worked with Welch on the title track, too. The LP will follow on from 2022’s ‘Dance Fever’.
Welch and co. recently announced a UK and European arena tour in support of ‘Everybody Scream’. The run of shows is set to kick off in February, and will include two dates at The O2 in London. Find any remaining tickets here.
The singer recently revealed that the inspiration for the ‘Everybody Scream’ album came from undergoing lifesaving surgery during the ‘Dance Fever’ tour in 2023. She also began to look into spiritual mysticism and folk horror – understanding the limits of her body and questioning what it means to be “healed”.
These are themes that helped shape the record, along with exploration of womanhood, partnership, ageing and dying.
Elsewhere, Welch opened up about being inspired by JADE and the current “experimental” side of pop on her “most personal” record yet, while recalling working with “one of [her] favourite artists of all time”, Mitski.
“She came to the studio one day and was like, ‘You need a chorus. I just feel like there’s a chorus coming after this drone – it’s so striking’,” she explained.
“Getting to work with Bowen and Mitski on this record is just so special to me. I didn’t know if she even worked on other people’s records, but I reached out: ‘I know you’re in town for shows, would you like to come to the studio?’ And she said yes!”
