United’s latest stance on Amorim’s future comes to light after humiliating derby defeat – report

Manchester United’s stance on Ruben Amorim has come to light amid renewed uncertainty about his future after the derby defeat to Manchester City.

United humiliated by City

United were put to the sword by Pep Guardiola’s men at the Etihad on Sunday. The Red Devils endured a difficult start to the game as Phil Foden headed home after just 18 minutes.

Erling Haaland made it 2-0 shortly after the break, before adding a third later on to seal the victory for his side and pile further misery on Amorim and his players.

United have managed just one league win from the four matches they’ve played so far this term. The setback against City has left them stranded in 14th place, facing more questions than answers.

Since his appointment as United head coach, Amorim has only managed eight wins in 31 top-flight clashes. Since his first game in charge on November 24, United rank bottom among the 17 ever-present Premier League teams.

The Portuguese coach holds the worst win percentage of any United manager since the Second World War.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, United chiefs remain convinced that Amorim is the right man for the job and are backing him to mastermind an upturn in performances and results.

United’s stance on Amorim

The Manchester Evening News claims, “Ruben Amorim retains the support of the Manchester United hierarchy despite the club’s worst start to a season in 33 years.”

“A source close to Amorim admits it is ‘incredible’ that his position is not under genuine threat despite 16 defeats in the 31 league matches.”

This has been corroborated by talkSPORT, who note that a change in the dugout is not expected at this stage.

talkSPORT say that the United board consider Amorim “the right appointment.”

After the final whistle against City, a defiant Amorim insisted he would not alter his methods, despite growing calls for a change.

United are back in action on Saturday when they host an unbeaten Chelsea at Old Trafford.
