Nintendo has confirmed the highly-anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will launch this December during a bumper Switch 2 Direct.
Metroid Prime 4 was announced back in 2017 with Nintendo restarting development in 2019 with their first attempt not reaching “the standard” of previous entries in the action-adventure series. A release trailer was finally unveiled last year, giving fans their first proper look at bounty hunter Samus Aran’s latest mission. It was later confirmed Metroid Prime 4 would release at some point in 2025 for both the original Switch and the Switch 2.
As part of a bumper Nintendo Direct to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., Nintendo shared a new trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond which sees Samus Aran tearing about alien planets on a sci-fi motorbike before blasting several foes with her arm canon.
The trailer also confirmed Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will launch December 4, 2025.

Earlier this year, Nintendo hit back at rumours the game would be delayed and was forced to deny Metroid Prime 4 was about to be surprise-released after posters claiming the game was “out now” were spotted in London. In 2023, Nintendo shadow-dropped a remastered version of the original Metroid Prime for the Switch.
Elsewhere in today’s Nintendo Direct (September 12), it was confirmed the The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will launch April 3 2026 and see the plucky plumber head to space. Fans are expecting the film to take heavy inspiration from the beloved Galaxy game, which originally launched in 2007 for the Wii and introduced Rosalina and the Luma to the franchise.
Ahead of the movie, Super Mario Galaxy and the 2010 sequel will be re-released on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 next month while paid DLC for Donkey Kong Bananza will be made available later today. Check out all the good stuff from the bumper, hour-long Direct here.
