United fans send a clear message to Ineos after busy summer of signings

Manchester United fans have had their say on how well owners Ineos performed in the summer transfer window that has just passed.

Despite the transfer market closing just under two weeks ago, with the international break, this weekend will be the first club action since the shutting of the window.

United had a productive summer bringing in attacking trio Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

There was also the late addition of a new goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp and an earlier deal for young wing back Diego Leon from Paraguay.

A success

To gauge fan reaction to the window, The Peoples Person created a poll asking readers “how well did we do with incomings in this window?”

67% of those polled responded with the option, “pretty good, but needed to strengthen elsewhere too.”

Fans will have likely been delighted with the revamping of last year’s flailing attack and the replacement of the error-prone Andre Onana between the sticks.

Nonetheless, United were linked to Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba in August but had to pull out of a deal owing to the Seagulls’ reluctance to sell. It has been reported that they will return for the player in January or next summer.

Despite a successful summer, United fans clearly felt that a midfielder of some sort would have been a welcome addition to Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte.

12% also voted for the option that the window was “fantastic, Ineos have got it spot on.”

This means that 79% of fans in total are generally pleased with how the window went.

Some disappointed

16% of supporters voted for the option that “time will tell, I am not sure about some of them.”

Whilst most fans seem to think that Cunha and Mbeumo will fit into the team due to their previous Premier League experience, there have been doubts about others.

Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens are both young options who lack experience in England when older, more Premier League proven players were available to sign this summer such as Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Martinez at Aston Villa.

4% of fans were far from satisfied with the window as they claimed that the window was “fairly poor and that they had fallen behind their rivals.”

Other Premier League clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea certainly had busy summers and perhaps some supporters viewed their rivals’ windows has money better spent.

Finally, a miniscule 2% judged the window as a “disaster” which seems hard to justify when four talented players were brought in to plug four gaps in the first eleven and a promising youngster.
