Perry Farrell responds to lawsuit from Jane’s Addiction bandmates, says Dave Navarro has “unclean hands”

Back in July, Dave Navarro and his Jane’s Addiction bandmates Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins sued Perry Farrell, accusing him of assault, battery, and breach of contract over the September 2024 show that ended abrupty after Farrell threw a punch at Navarro onstage, and the cancelled tour that follow. Farrell filed his own legal complaint against his former bandmates, and now he’s filed a response to the claims in Navarro’s suit. In a document filed on Monday (9/8) and viewed by People, Farrell writes that he “denies each and every allegation in the complaint,” and denies that Navarro has “been damaged in any way or in any amount whatsoever.”

In his response, Farrell claims he acted in “good faith and without malice” toward Navarro, and says Navarro “fails to state facts sufficient to constitute a cause of action against,” has “unclean hands,” and “failed to exercise reasonable care and diligence to mitigate [the] alleged claims and damages.” Farrell is seeking to have the suit dismissed, with Navarro not awarded any monetary damages, and for Navarro to pay his legal fees.

In a statement to People, Christopher Frost, Navarro’s attorney, says “the lawsuit speaks for itself. So does the video. By responding in this way, Mr. Farrell is not taking any formal legal step to stop the litigation. This is consistent with the fact that they have taken no affirmative steps to advance their claims, whether serving discovery or otherwise, and it is consistent with the strength of the claims by Dave, Eric, and Stephen.”

Farrell’s lawyer did not respond to People‘s request for comment.

In the suit Farrell filed against Navarro, Avery, and Perkins, he accused them of pursuing a “years-long bullying campaign” against him and said he had no say in the cancellation of the tour or the band’s breakup.
