Team Cherry has confirmed it’s set to make Hollow Knight: Silksong easier after complaints from fans that it was “too difficult”.
Silksong was originally planned as an expansion for 2017’s fiendishly difficult metroidvania Hollow Knight but developers Team Cherry later decided to turn it into a full-blown sequel. The game had been set to launch in 2023 but was delayed several times before finally being released last week, much to the excitement of gamers.
The launch was so big, Hollow Knight: Silksong crashed multiple digital storefronts and saw more than 500,000 people playing concurrently on PC (via SteamDB). Since the game launched last week, that number hasn’t dropped below 250,000.
However there were plenty of complaints that Silksong was too difficult, with enemies dealing two masks of damage from the very start, bosses having unpredictable attack patterns and not dropping rewards. In their first post-launch update, Team Cherry is set to make things easier.
“This [update] is primarily focused on bug fixes, with some slight balance adjustments in the early game. Barring any unforeseen issues, we’re aiming to deliver the patch to all players mid next week,” wrote Team Cherry.
The update includes a “slight difficulty reduction” in early game bosses Moorwing and Sister Splinter, a reduction in damage caused by Sandcarvers and a “slight reduction” in mid-game Bellway and Bell Bench prices. Players will also experience an “increase in rosary rewards” for courier deliveries, relics and psalm cylinders. You can see the full patch notes here.
“Everyone wants to just throw around this negativity as if Team Cherry would never listen but look here, they actually fucking did listen. What a goated team,” one fan wrote following the news. “Yeah I really like how they actually try their best to make some small balance changes and not just completely nerf everything, they really try to polish things up and that’s cool,” said another.
Earlier this year, players complained about the difficulty of Elden Ring: Nightreign and developers quickly released a series of updates to make it easier. However last week they confirmed an ultra-difficult mode was coming.
In other news, Gorillaz have confirmed they’re set to relaunch their iconic Kong Studios as an online video game.
