5 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

SÉBASTIEN TELLIER – “REFRESH”

French Touch auteur Sebastian Tellier is back with his first new music in five years. “Refresh” was co-written with longtime collaborator Amandine de la Richardière and features contributions from SebastiAn and Oscar Holter. “It’s a track about renewal, rebirth, failures, and the ceaseless cycle of starting over,” says Tellier. “It’s about changing internal processes at certain moments in life in order to keep moving forward, to reinvent oneself, to continue existing—like an animal shedding its skin, or like reprogramming computer software to survive inner chaos. And always rolling the dice again, over and over.”

H. PRUZ – “ARRIVAL”

h. pruz (Sister.) announced a newn solo album, Red sky at morning, due out November 7 via Mtn. Laurel. About new single “Arrival,” they say, “I love exploring what it’s like to step over the edge of rationality, the expected, especially when it comes to the relationship with my own self. What happens when the obsessive vein overflows? What if it was meant to? I was experiencing a point of my life that was almost stagnant with domesticity, and it drove me a bit wild internally.”

DENDRONS – “TUCK ME UNDER”

Chicago band Dendrons will release new album Indiana on November 17 via Candlepin.First single “Tuck Me Under” is somewhere between modern dreampop and the angst of late-’00s groups like Abe Vigoda.

RAGANA + DROWSE – “IN ETERNAL WOODS PTS. 2 & 3”

Black metal/slowcore duo Ragana and Drowse, the drone/shoegaze project of Kyle Bates, are teaming up for a collaborative album, Ash Souvenir, due out on November 14 via The Flenser. They’ve shared an excerpt from the album opener, which Noel of Ragan says is about “loss and memory and love. It’s about sacred places and benevolent ancestors. It’s me standing in the sunlit woods surrounding my Grandma Rasma’s rural Washington cabin, feeling her spirit in everything. My childhood summers were spent in my Grandma’s magical presence, listening to her stories, hunting for chanterelles, singing Latvian folk songs, and playing in the forest. My grandma and her family fled Latvia after the second Soviet occupation of World War 2; despite everything she endured, she was always looking to the future with hope, but she made sure to teach my sister and I about the past, made sure we had a connection to our culture and ancestors. She passed away in 2023 after suffering with dementia for ten years; it was my first experience losing someone bit by bit, helpless against the tide of time sweeping away the person I knew, but still able to share love, to hold her hand and sing to her the way she once sang to me. Incorporating audio clips from old home videos, a verse of Latvian folk poetry known as a Daina, and a prayer for her journey into the next world, with this 4 part song I hoped to express even a fragment of my infinite love for her, and my gratitude for everything she was and everything she taught me.”

OBITS – L.E.G.I.T.

Back in 2014, Obits (featuring the late Rick Froberg) put out the Japanese only comp L.E.G.I.T. which featured 12 non-LP and 7″ tracks. That is now getting its first US release on November 7 via Outer Battery Records. Check out “Put it In Writing.”
