Sing-along cinema screenings of Netflix global hit KPop Demon Hunters are selling out fast, according to new reports.

Released in June on the streaming service, the animated film tells the story of music superstars Rumi, Mira and Zoey, collectively a K-pop girl group named Huntr/x, who lead double lives as demon hunters and face off against a rival boy band The Saja Boys, whose members are secretly demons. In early August, it was announced that it had become the most-watched original animated film in Netflix history.

Songs from the film have made an impact on the music charts, with fictional band Huntr/x’s song ‘Golden’ reaching number one in the UK, and The Saja Boys’ track ‘Your Idol’ reaching number two in the US.

The success of the film has prompted the streamer to announce KPop Demon Hunters: A Live Sing-along Event, taking place at participating cinemas on August 23 and 24. To find participating cinemas and available dates, click here.

According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, 1,700 cinemas in the US and Canada are booked to show the film, with 1,000 of them already selling out due to its popularity.

NME has reached out to Netflix for comment and UK presales data.

In early August, a report from The Wrap shared that Netflix is already working on a live-action version of the story, as well as two animated sequels and even a stage musical, with the streamer said to believe that they may have found their own version of the Frozen franchise. As yet, no further additions to the franchise have been officially announced.

Recently, Ahn Hyo-Seop, who voiced the antagonist Jinu in the film, spoke about coming back for a potential sequel. “As someone who loves Jinu as a fan, too, of course I would love to see him come back,” he told USA Today. “But it’s not up to me.”
