Manchester United have gained an advantage in their pursuit of Atalanta striker Ademola Lookman.
Striker hunt
The Red Devils have been desperate to add firepower to their team all summer and after missing out on Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres, need to act fast to secure other options.
They have been linked to forwards such as Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins and both players seem open to joining Ruben Amorim’s side.
United also have other options on their list and one such player is Lookman who scored a hattrick in the final of the Europa League in 2024.
Long-standing Lookman interest
United have had the Nigeria international on their radar for quite some time and at one stage were said to be keen on offering a swap deal with former Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.
It has also been reported that the club have held “direct talks” with the Italian side for the striker but they also reportedly face competition from Arsenal for the player’s signature.
United price advantage
Fabrizio Romano’s latest report suggests that United may just have an advantage over numerous other clubs pursuing the attacker.
The Italian journalist reports that “Inter Milan informed Atalanta about their opening €40m bid for Ademola Lookman, while Atalanta insist on fee at least reaching €50m.”
The forward is keen to leave Atalanta and join Inter but there is a fly in the ointment for the Serie A and Champions League runners-up.
Romano asserts that, “Lookman will facilitate his exit but Atalanta keep their position on no green light to Italian clubs at €40m.”

Therefore, perhaps if United were to make a bid in this region, they may be able to get a deal done as Atalanta look to push Lookman out of the hands of a Serie A rival.
For a player who scored 20 goals last season in all competitions and has significant experience at 27-years-old, €40 million is certainly not an unreasonable price to pay.
