Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham spark reunion rumours with cryptic Instagram posts

Fans believe a Fleetwood Mac reunion of sorts could be imminent after Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham shared a pair of cryptic posts on social media.

Yesterday, Nicks and Lindsey stirred up rumours of a reunion – or reconciliation at the very least – through a pair of cryptic posts on Instagram. Nicks and Lindsey dated between 1972 and 1976 and had remained bandmates in Fleetwood Mac until Lindsey was fired from the band in 2018 after over 40 years in somewhat acrimonious circumstances relating to a disagreement over a tour, to be replaced by Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell and Crowded House’s Neil Finn.

Since then, Nicks and Lindsey had appeared to be at loggerheads, though that no longer seems to be the case. In a post that no one saw coming, Nicks yesterday (July 17) posted hand-written lyrics to the 1973 Buckingham Nicks tune ‘Frozen Love’: “And if you go forward…”

Buckingham then completed the lyric in his own hand-written post: “I’ll meet you there”. Mick Fleetwood also joined in on the fun, sharing a video of himself listening to the duo’s ‘Frozen Love’, which was re-shared on the official Fleetwood Mac Instagram page.

“Magic then, magic now,” Fleetwood wrote. Check out their posts below.

Naturally, the cryptic posts have gotten fans riled up in the comments. Rachel Zegler wrote on Nicks’ post: “no because what is going on in this house?” Other comments include “Fuck an Oasis reunion, we’re getting a Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham reunion,” and fans joking about Coldplay seemingly outing a CEO for having an affair with his employee at one of their shows: “I love that Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham saw this and took it as some sort of bat signal”.

The trio of posts follow comments from earlier this year when Fleetwood and Buckingham were pictured working on new music together in the studio.

Prior to that, Fleetwood said he wished Buckingham and Nicks would “pal up a bit more” and “just say everything’s OK”. Similarly, last year he said: “It’s no secret, it’s no tittle-tattle that there is a brick wall there emotionally. Stevie’s able to speak clearly about how she feels and doesn’t feel, as does Lindsey.”

He continued: “But I’ll say, personally, I would love to see a healing between them – and that doesn’t have to take the shape of a tour, necessarily.” After Buckingham’s firing in 2018, however, he told People that it was “all Stevie’s doing,” and that she “basically gave the band an ultimatum that either I had to go or she would go.”

For her part, Nicks denied the accusations: “I did not demand he be fired. Frankly, I fired myself. I proactively removed myself from the band and a situation I considered to be toxic to my well-being. I was done. If the band went on without me, so be it.”

A full Fleetwood Mac reunion currently seems unlikely, as Nicks has said that without the late McVie, “there is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together.”

Nicks has also shared that she thought “there’s no reason” to get the band back together without McVie. “Without Christine, no can do. There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn’t work,” she added.

In other news, it was announced last year that a “fully authorised”, “definitive” Fleetwood Mac documentary to chronicle the history of the legendary band is in the works.
