BRICS summit opens in Brazil without Xi Jinping and Putin

Leaders of the growing BRICS group of developing nations meeting in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday are expected to decry US President Donald Trump’s “indiscriminate” trade tariffs, saying they are illegal and risk hurting the global economy, according to a draft summit statement obtained by AFP on Saturday.
