Juventus are accelerating plans to offload Nico Gonzalez and Douglas Luiz in order to fund a deal for Jonathan David—potentially edging out Manchester United in the race for the Canadian striker.
United have long admired the Lille forward, but Juventus appear to be in pole position, having agreed personal terms and now working to free up funds to complete the move.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Serie A giants are onsidering offloading Nico Gonzalez and Douglas Luiz to finance a move for Jonathan David, amid ongoing uncertainty around Dusan Vlahovic’s future.
Juve bosses are frustrated with Vlahovic’s refusal to agree a new deal and his lack of chemistry with new management.
If Vlahovic stays but remains peripheral, he would still cost the club €40 million next season, with the overall attacking budget ballooning to €75 million when David’s salary and commission demands are factored in.
David’s camp are seeking a hefty package despite his free-agent status.
A €12 million agent commission, €10 million signing bonus and €13 million gross salary bring the first-year cost to €35 million. Over five years, the total could rise above €85 million.
For United, this valuation may be excessive for a backup target, especially given existing needs across the squad.
But Juventus seem willing to pay, even if it means offloading recent high-profile signings to make room.
Gonzalez is now available for €25–30 million, while Luiz—who still has admirers in the Premier League, is valued at €40 million.
Timing is critical, as David is ready to sign and does not want to wait.
For United, the takeaway is clear. If they want to move for David, they must act quickly—before Juventus resolve their sales and close the deal.
Otherwise, they risk losing another target to a rival operating with urgency and ambition, albeit under financial strain.
