France mulls preventing small boat crossings to UK

France is considering stopping Britain-bound migrant boats in its shallow coastal waters, but the move raises both safety and legal issues. France has long been a launchpad for migrants who pay smugglers large sums of money to cross the Channel and start a better life in Britain. The UK is paying France over 500 million euros to prevent small boats from crossing the channel.
