BBC “delighted” that Neil Young’s headline Glastonbury 2025 set will be streamed after all

The BBC have confirmed that they will be streaming Neil Young‘s headline set at Glastonbury 2025, after all.

Young and his band The Chrome Hearts are set to top the bill on the Pyramid Stage later today (June 28). Since he first pulled out of the Worthy Farm festival – calling it a “corporate turn-off” over the BBC’s involvement back in January – there’s been speculation as to whether his set would be broadcast.

Earlier this month, Young appeared to be omitted from the BBC’s coverage plans, with a spokesperson for the broadcaster telling NME that their “schedules and plans continue to be finalised, right up to and during the festival”. Glasto boss Emily Eavis then added that she “didn’t believe” that his set would be shown.

Even once gates opened at the festival, it seemed certain that fans at home wouldn’t be able to catch Young’s performance, with the BBC saying on Thursday (June 26) that they wouldn’t be streaming his set “at the artist’s request”.

Now, however, it seems that matters have been resolved, with the BBC releasing a statement saying they were “delighted” to confirm Young would be included in their broadcast schedule.

“Earlier this week, we said that at the artist’s request, Neil Young’s set would not be shown live on the BBC on Saturday night,” the statement began. “Today, we are delighted to confirm that it will be.”

His performance will be broadcast to audiences across the UK on the BBC, on iPlayer’s Pyramid Stage stream from 10pm, as well as BBC Two and Radio 2. “Our on-demand plans continue to be finalised,” a spokesperson added.

Young warmed up for the festival last week with a setlist of live rarities as he kicked off his European tour.

Despite his “corporate turn-off” comments, Young and The Chrome Hearts will be headlining London’s BST Hyde Park on Friday July 11, which is presented by American Express.

In other news, Paul McCartney recently named Young’s ‘Harvest Moon’ as one of his top three favourite records of all time.

So far, Glastonbury has seen a surprise set from Lorde – who performed her new album ‘Virgin’ in full (and scored a five star review in the process), a spunky set from Wet LegLewis Capaldi’s triumphant return for a secret set at the Pyramid Stage, a surprise appearance by Peter Capaldi at Franz Ferdinand’s set and more.

The 1975 headlined the Pyramid Stage last night (June 27), earning a four-star review from NME, which read: “With their one show of the year, “The 1975 from the Internet” clear the decks on their career so far to deliver a reminder of their chops for tunes and showmanship away from the headlines.”

The weekend continues with Charli XCXDeftones, Olivia RodrigoThe ProdigyRod Stewart and many more. Check out the full line-up and schedule here.
