United accept they must agree to “more realistic” fee to cut adrift controversial star – report

Manchester United want £60 million for Alejandro Garnacho but seem resigned to the fact they will have to drop their price to £40-£50 million to get a deal done.

The Argentine endured a wasteful season in front of goal as he missed numerous chances for Ruben Amorim’s side.

He also fell out with the Portuguese coach in December and was subsequently left out of the squad to face Manchester City. Garnacho was also left on the bench for the Europa League final in May and subsequently publicly criticised the manager’s decision.

Amorim was reportedly livid and allegedly told the 20 year old that he had better pray that he finds a new club, making it clear he has no future at Old Trafford.

What’s more, club officials are said to be “seething” after the forward posted a picture of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt on social media earlier this week.

The Mirror report that “United want around £60 million for Garnacho” but they accept there are numerous factors which make this fee unrealistic.

The public nature of the falling out with Amorim as well as the fact that the club are desperate to sell him, certainly weakens United’s hand in negotiations.

The paper states that “a more realistic fee for United to accept would be around £40 million, which would count as pure profit against the backdrop of profit and sustainability rules.”

Garnacho joined the club as a 15 year old from Atletico Madrid in 2020, so has academy status which makes any sale of the player advantageous for United’s books.

SSC Napoli were very keen to take Garnacho off the club’s hands but his price has been seen as a major obstacle for a future deal.

Chelsea have also been seen as realistic suitors but also seem unprepared to pay United’s valuation with rumours they would aim to use Christopher Nkunku in a swap deal.

What is clear is that United will want to sell the player as soon as possible as bridges seem burnt between him and the club. Moreover, any money they can generate for him will be very useful for the funding of other signings they want to make later in the summer.
