24 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

ANIMAL COLLECTIVE – “LOVE ON THE BIG SCREEN”

Animal Collective are back with a new standalone single, “Love On The Big Screen,” which will come out on a limited-edition 7″ on August 1 with B-side “Buddies On the Blackboard.” It’s a gooey psych-pop song that comes with a well-matched kaleidoscopic video.

CASE OATS – “IN A BUNGALOW”

“This song is kind of a taunt set to a sweet melody,” says Case Oats’ Casey Gomex Walker. “An indignant taunt. I’m wondering why people I grew up with haven’t moved on from childhood drama. I’m asking why they haven’t gotten past that stuff. But in the end, I’m no better. I want to be back in a bar with them, regressing, indulging in the sweet pain of being left behind and wronged.” Case Oats’ Last Missouri Exit is out August 22 via Merge.

NAIMA BOCK – “ROLLING”

“‘Rolling’ is a song that didn’t quite fit into Below a Massive Dark Land, but I thought it was worth its own moment,” says Naima Bock of this standalone track. “Written on a train back from Glasgow to London, I’m sure its lyrics will resonate with some. If not, then that’s a good thing. Plus, if you listen to the whole thing, you’re rewarded with some expert jaw harp playing.”

MAL DEVISA – “OLD INTRO” & “SKYLINE ARMS-REACH OUT”

Mal Devisa is releasing a new anthology album, Palimpsesa, on July 30 via Topshelf. She’s shared two singles from it, “Old Intro,” and “Skyline Arms-Reach Out,” writing, “I owe the song ‘Old Intro’ to the refusal to be taken seriously. When I was young I knew music was what I wanted to do but in the same breath I was kind of unruly in a funny way. I recorded this song in an era where I was listening to a lot of artists like Odd Future, Bajka, and Arts the Beatdoctor. To this day all of these artists still influence me in different ways. I’m really honest about my songs in general. The lyrics are teenagery and weird but it was a reflection of who I was at the time. This song teaches me the importance of doing your thing with your friends. And having it be nothing but that. On ‘Skyline Arms-Reach Out’ I shifted the lyrics and meaning to honor Blackness in all of its forms. I had this existential moment where I felt like I needed a song about Black joy and love and resilience. The song feels rich in emotion, exactly how I felt in the moment.”

MADELINE KENNEY – “SEMITONES”

Madeline Kenney’s new album Kiss From the Balcony is out next month, and she’s shared another single, “Semitones.” “You ever start to dread someone instead of love them? What a nauseating feeling,” she says. “This is about trust landsliding into mistrust. I’ve spent the past few years really learning to trust my own mind, however – rather than others’. I like that the chorus sounds melodically hopeful, which I am. But the verses are intentionally dark and dramatic – it feels like a reflection of the psychic journey I’ve been on.”

COLATURA – “(EVERY TIME I THINK ABOUT YOU) IT’S ABOUT ME”

NYC band Colatura will release new EP If I’m Being Honest on August 1. This new single has strong early-’00s vibes.

FANCLUBWALLET – “COTTON MOUTH”

“I wrote this one when I was feeling stuck and stagnant, but when I finally brought it to the band they really breathed new life into it and made it feel magic again!!,” fanclubwallet writes of her propulsive new single “Cotton Mouth.” It’s out now via “Lauren Records.

ROYEL OTIS – “CAR”

Aussie duo Royel Otis are back with this jangly new single that will be on their new album hickey that’s out August 22.

ORCUTT SHELLEY MILLER (BILL ORCUTT, STEVE SHELLEY, ETHAN MILLER) – “A STAR IS BORN”

Bill Orcutt (Harry Pussy), Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) and Ethan Miller (Howlin Rain, Comets On Fire) are releasing a new self-titled trio album on September 5, and the first single/opening track “A Star Is Born” is a fuzz-driven instrumental rock freakout.

EVAN GREER – “$5” (ft. EVE 6)

Musician and trans/queer activist Evan Greer announced a new album, AMAB/ACAB, due September 19. Evan’s own description of lead single “$5” and its video says it best:

The video for $5 is a “transition timeline” using clips from shows I’ve played over the last 23 years. It starts with footage of me playing at a rally against the Iraq war I helped organize in high school, and ends with me playing at the Trump inauguration protests. The montage shows me losing my sideburns, growing out my hair, ditching cargo pants for sequin dresses and playing in basements, living rooms, punk squats, bookstores.

Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine makes a cameo, along with the guys from Eve 6 who feature on the song, Anjimile who plays bass with me, and my kid, who grew up on the road with me while I toured in her early years. $5 is very much a pop-punk brew of weaponized nostalgia, and this look back felt very right for the tune.

JOBBER – “NIGHTMARE”

Brooklyn indie band Jobber will follow their 2022 debut EP Hell In A Cell with their first full-length, Jobber To The Stars, on August 22 via Exploding In Sound. The first single is a dose of ’90s-style indie rock called “Nightmare.”

LORNA SHORE – “UNBREAKABLE”

NJ deathcore staples Lorna Shore will release their new album I Feel the Everblack Festering Within Me on September 12 via Century Media, and the latest taste is the symphonic “Unbreakable.”

SILVANA ESTRADA – “LILA ALELÍ”

Mexico singer/songwriter Silvana Estrada has shared her second new single of 2025, a lovely ballad called “Lila Alelí.”

DJ HARAM – “FISHNETS” (ft. BBYMUTHA & SHA RAY)

DJ Haram has shared another single from her upcoming debut album Beside Myself, and it’s an experimental rap song that features Bbymutha, Sha Ray, and additional production from August Fanon.
