United not breaking the bank for Mbeumo as he’s set to earn significantly less than rumoured £250k a week wages – report

Should he complete a move to Manchester United, Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo will earn a lot less than the £250k a week wages that have been widely reported.

Mbeumo remains a key target for United as the club looks to inject much-needed firepower following a goal-shy 2024/25 campaign.

The Cameroonian is coming off a season that saw him net a career-best 20 goals, while providing an additional six assists. Since arriving at Brentford from Troyes in 2019, Mbeumo has been a steady performer for the side, and it always felt like a bigger move was on the horizon. But it was last season that he truly announced himself and now, United have emerged as frontrunners for his signature.

At Old Trafford, he is seen as someone who can easily slot into one of the two number 10 positions alongside new signing Matheus Cunha.

United had an initial bid worth up to £55m rejected by Brentford but they remained in talks to try and reach a compromise.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United tabled an improved bid, which values Mbeumo at more than £60m.

There is optimism that an agreement can be struck between the two Premier League sides, with Amorim eager to have the player in place for the pre-season tour.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Mbeumo wanted £250,000-a-week to join United.

As recently as yesterday, when reports emerged of United submitting an improved offer, it was reaffirmed that the club had agreed to hand Mbeumo a £250,000-a-week salary.

But The Guardian’s Jamie Jackson has set the record straight, revealing the actual sum is actually around £150,000-a-week.

Jackson wrote for the newspaper, “Brentford value the 25-year-old in the same bracket as Matheus Cunha, for whom United were willing to pay a £62.5m release clause from Wolves. As the Cameroon international is younger than the 26-year-old Brazilian they are holding out for a fee that, with add-ons, is worth more – around £65m.”

“Mbeumo can also expect to earn at least £150,000 a week, the same region of salary as Cunha. Last season Mbeumo scored 20 goals in the league, while Cunha managed 15.”

Hopefully, this development puts to rest claims that Mbeumo’s interest in United is financially driven, reaffirming his commitment to the sporting project and the prestige of representing a club of United’s stature.
