Jordi Alba makes things clear on leaving Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami for a ‘Last Dance’ at Valencia

Jordi Alba set the record straight about the possibility of leaving Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami to go for a “Last Dance” at Valencia.

Jordi Alba has quickly become one of the most important players at Inter Miami in recent years, still making an impact on the field despite being 36 years old. Now entering the twilight of his career, the Spanish defender addressed the growing speculation about potentially leaving Lionel Messi‘s side for a “Last Dance” at Valencia.

Since Messi’s arrival in July 2023, Alba has been one of the former FC Barcelona stars to join him in Major League Soccer, helping spark a revolution in the league. Yet with his deep ties to his roots—and inspired by recent stories like Santi Cazorla winning promotion with Real Oviedo at 41—a return to Valencia remains a tempting storyline.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Alba was asked directly about the possibility of returning to the club that raised him. The defender offered an honest and heartfelt response, referencing his mixed reception in recent visits to Mestalla as a Barcelona player:

I have great respect and a lot of affection for Valencia. Although it’s true that the last few times I went there with Barça weren’t good experiences and I was expecting something different. But I still have a great affection for the club and the fans, as they treated me very well when I was there,” the defender said.

I haven’t considered that ‘last dance,’ but I always wish them the best. Even though many people might doubt it, I have a lot of love for the team. It’s the club that gave me everything so I could succeed and make my debut in La Liga. My years there — in the youth team, the reserves, and the first team — were very happy, and I’m grateful to everyone in general.”

Alba spent five years with Los Che, making his debut in Spain’s top division before his move to Barcelona. Recently, he signed a contract extension with Inter Miami that runs through December 2027. By the end of that deal, Alba would be 38, but he has not completely ruled out the possibility of returning to Valencia in the future.

Alba fit for Palmeiras game

One of Inter Miami’s biggest concerns in recent weeks was Alba’s absence following a muscular injury sustained against Charlotte FC in May. After making a substitute appearance against Porto, Alba was asked whether he expects to start in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup 2025 clash against Palmeiras:

Starting this Monday? I’m fine, whether the coach needs me from the start or off the bench. I’m happy to be back. I think we’re playing very well, and teams aren’t scoring on us that easily,” said the veteran defender, who appears ready to contribute as Inter Miami aims to reach the round of 16.
