Is Sergio Ramos playing for Monterrey vs River Plate in FIFA Club World Cup 2025?

With Monterrey set to face River Plate in a key clash for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, fans wonder if Sergio Ramos will be taking part of the game.

Sergio Ramos has been one of Monterrey‘s standout performers at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, leading with his trademark leadership and commanding displays. With Matchday 2 against River Plate shaping up as a crucial fixture in the fight for qualification to the next round, fans are eager to know whether the Spanish defender will take the field at Rose Bowl Stadium.

Monterrey made a strong impression in their opening match against Inter Milan, with Ramos scoring the opener on a header. Though Lautaro Martinez equalized in the 42nd minute, the Mexican side managed to hold on for a valuable point against one of last season’s UEFA Champions League finalists.

With Urawa Red Diamonds still to come in the group stage, the clash with River Plate looms as a pivotal matchup that could all but seal a spot in the round of 16. Monterrey will be counting on Ramos’ presence to help secure the vital three points.

Is Sergio Ramos playing tonight?

According to reports, Sergio Ramos will be available for Monterrey’s Group E match against River Plate. Whether coach Domenec Torrent opts for a back three or a two-centerback setup, Ramos is expected to start, just as he did on Tuesday against Inter.

There was some concern on Thursday when Monterrey resumed training and Ramos was seen working individually on regenerative exercises. However, as reported by TUDN, his separate session was strictly precautionary and part of his ongoing rehabilitation program, not the result of any injury setback.

Fully fit and focused, Ramos is preparing for the big match. On the eve of the game, he posted several updates to his Instagram account, writing “Vamos Rayados” and “Eyes on the game,” signaling his readiness.

Ramos sets expectations vs. River Plate

River Plate enter the match in strong form after defeating Urawa Red Diamonds 3-1, and they’ll be looking to punch their ticket to the round of 16 in the Club World Cup with another win. Following Monterrey’s intense draw with Inter, Ramos addressed the level of challenge awaiting them against the Argentine powerhouse.

We did many things well and failed in many others. We have to emphasize the mistakes so they serve as a learning experience. We need to analyze the errors and improve because against River it’s going to be a very tough match, with a very high level of demand, especially in duels, intensity, and aggressiveness,” Ramos said following the match against Inter.

We have to forget the point we earned and focus on the next match, on getting all three points. We know how tough River are because they are a team that will compete until the very last minute. That’s part of the Argentine spirit — constant individual battles. We’re going to go all out to try to get a positive result.”
