The “faithful” Silent Hill 2 movie adaptation Return To Silent Hill has confirmed a 2026 release date.
It was previously announced that director Christophe Gans would be returning to the Silent Hill franchise after working on a 2006 movie adaptation. A sequel (Silent Hill: Revelation) followed in 2012, but was directed by M. J. Basset.
The “faithful” adaptation of Silent Hill 2 was announced back in 2022 and filming took place the following year, but the project was only picked up by Cineverse for release last month.
It’s now been confirmed that Return To Silent Hill will hit cinemas January 23, 2026. The adaptation will star Jeremy Irvine as James Sunderland, Hannah Emily Anderson as Mary and Evie Templeton as Laura. “The film follows James, a man broken after his relationship with the love of his life, Mary, ends. When a mysterious letter from her calls him back to Silent Hill, he finds a once-recognisable town transformed by an unknown evil,” reads an official description of the film.
“While James desperately searches for Mary he encounters terrifying creatures and begins to unravel the mystery of what happened to the town. But as he descends deeper into the darkness the secrets he uncovers lead to a horrifying truth, and James finds himself struggling to hold on long enough to save his one true love.”

The film will be directed and co-written by Christophe Gans while the game’s original composer Akira Yamaoka is also involved in the project. “Return To Silent Hill is an adaptation created out of deep respect for a true masterpiece of a game, Konami’s iconic Silent Hill 2. I hope fans will enjoy and be fulfilled with the experience this new film has to offer,” Gans said in a statement.
A critically acclaimed remake of Silent Hill 2 was released last year by Konami and new game, Silent Hill f, is set for release later this year. Fans have already got excited about the brutal trigger warnings around the psychological horror title, while the actor behind protagonist Shimizu Hinako has said working on the game affected their sanity.
In other news, previews for Borderlands 4 have been shared online, with many praising the game as a much-needed evolution of the beloved franchise.
