Kerosene Heights announce new album ‘Blame It On The Weather,’ share “New Tattoo”

Rising Asheville emo band Kerosene Heights have announced their sophomore album and first for SideOneDummy, Blame It On the Weather, due August 15 via their new label home (pre-order). It was produced, engineered, and mixed by by Billy Mannino (Oso Oso, Prince Daddy & The Hyena, Macseal) at Two Worlds Studio in Queens, NY, and vocalist/guitarist Chance Smith calls it “the record we’ve all been wanting to put out since the band got started.”

“From the inception of our band to this album, you can really see how it’s developed from Chance writing songs to everyone putting our own things on top of that,” adds guitarist Justin Franklin. “With each release we’ve done since our first EP [2022’s no more bad dreams], it’s been cool to see how everybody has been able to inject a little bit more of their ideas and their own musical identity and personality into a lot of these songs. To me, this release is our band really making a statement.”

About the album title, Chance says, “It was a theme that came up on its own. There’s a lot of things based on transition and change, as well as talk about the weather specifically. That’s been an omnipresent thing in our lives with the hurricane, and it felt like it fit the mood and the throughline of the record.”

Blame It On the Weather includes Kerosene Heights’ great recent single “Waste My Time,” and the album announcement brings a second single, “New Tattoo.” Chance says the song was written just two weeks before the band left for the studio and they’d never played it together before recording it, and he adds, “I got married this year and the song is about that. I’m asking to be a permanent part of you for the rest of your life, like a tattoo.” Between the message of the song and the last-minute-ness of the recording, it’s both urgent and heartfelt, and it’s another great example of Kerosene Heights’ knack for combining noodly, mathy emo and punchy hooks. Kerosene Heights also have a bunch of tour dates coming up, including a run with Equipment (who just dropped a new song last week) and Summerbruise that hits Brooklyn on June 24 at The Broadway with Oolong and Fox Teeth on the bill as well. All dates are listed below.
