George R.R. Martin has shared his views on the upcoming movie adaptation of Elden Ring in a new blog entry.

The Game Of Thrones author helped create hit video game Elden Ring by writing the “backstory and history” on which the winding narrative was based on. He’s also set to serve as a producer on the upcoming movie adaptation.

The project was confirmed last month, with Warfare’s Alex Garland set to write the script and direct the movie for A24. However the news has split the fanbase. Some are loving rumours around Heartstopper’s Kit Connor starring in the film while others are unsure how the twisting, epic story of Elden Ring can be condensed into a single movie.

George R. R. Martin has now had his say about the project. Taking to his personal blog, the author shared a three-minute video created by YouTuber Zayf The Scholar titled ‘Why The Elden Ring Movie Won’t Suck’.

“The good news is, when you look into the details, there are a lot of great signs that this movie is going to be great, including some hidden credentials possessed by director Alex Garland. Spoiler alert: he may have played Elden Ring even more than you have,” Zayf The Scholar explained.

“Here’s the latest about the ELDER RING movie that was announced a few days ago,” Martin wrote alongside the video. “A24 is a kickass studio, and Alex Garland is a first rate director,” he added.

It comes after Martin seemingly criticised adaptations of Game Of Thrones and House Of The Dragon. “In most of the cases where a Hollywood screenwriter makes something their own, they don’t improve it. I think the majority of cases it’s the opposite”

Meanwhile, Martin had to defend himself after it was announced he’d be involved in the Elden Ring film as well as A Dozen Tough Jobs. “Some of you will just be pissed off by this, as you are by everything I announce here that is not about Westeros or The Winds Of Winter,” he wrote.

“Thing is, I do care about them. And I care about Westeros and Winds as well. The Starks and Lannisters and Targaryens, Tyrion and Asha, Dany and Daenerys, the dragons and the direwolves, I care about them all. More than you can ever imagine,” he added. However the sixth Game Of Thrones book, which was originally due for release in 2016, still isn’t finished. Martin recently called the unfinished series the “curse” of his life.

In other news, it looks like Nintendo Switch 2 users will have to wait to play the new Borderlands 4. PlayStation, Xbox and PC owners can get the long-awaited sequel in September but the Switch 2 version still doesn’t have a firm release date.
