£73m United star takes big step closer to exit as “multiple” Saudi teams enter talks over transfer – report

Manchester United are exploring exit options for winger Jadon Sancho, with interest emerging from multiple clubs in Saudi Arabia.

The 25 year old is set to return to Old Trafford this summer following a second loan spell away from the club.

After a fallout with former manager Erik ten Hag, Sancho spent the first half of last season at Borussia Dortmund before moving to Chelsea in January.

The London side had initially agreed to include a £25 million buy clause as part of the loan. However, they have since chosen to pay a £5 million penalty to terminate the agreement rather than pursue a permanent transfer.

United are now under pressure to sell players in order to fund Ruben Amorim’s summer rebuild.

With no Champions League football on offer next term, revenue constraints have sharpened the focus on outgoings.

Sancho, who joined United in 2021 from Dortmund in a deal worth £73 million, has endured a turbulent spell at the club marked by inconsistent form and off-field challenges.

A move abroad, particularly to a less scrutinised environment, may offer the winger a fresh start as he seeks to rebuild his career.

However, Sancho’s wages remain a major stumbling block.

His salary is understood to be prohibitive for many European clubs, prompting United to seek alternatives beyond the continent.

That search has led to the Middle East. Several Saudi Pro League clubs are believed to have made initial enquiries in recent days. These exploratory contacts, common in high-level transfers, are part of early-stage discussions to assess interest and feasibility.

We had previously reported that Al-Hilal had approached the player regarding a move in the summer. It now seems that other clubs have joined the race to sign the United winter.

Although no formal bids have been submitted, the prospect of a move to Saudi Arabia appears to be gaining traction. The financial strength of the league could accommodate Sancho’s wage demands, which have been a barrier in other negotiations.

It remains to be seen whether the player will be willing to compromise on his wage to facilitate a move, or if the Saudi interest will materialise into a firm proposal in the coming weeks.
